A Bid Built on Collaboration: Bringing the Global Wound Care Community Together for WUWHS 2030

HMP Global, in collaboration with the Wound Healing Society, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, and the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel, has submitted a bid to host the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) Congress 2030 in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 4-8, 2030.

If selected, the bid would bring the WUWHS Congress to the United States for the first time and extend HMP Global’s wound care education, research, and publishing platforms to a global WUWHS audience.

What Is the World Union of Wound Healing Societies?

WUWHS is an international organization that brings together wound healing societies and wound care professionals to advance education, research, clinical exchange, and global collaboration.¹

Founded in Australia in 2000, WUWHS convenes its World Congress every 4 years, providing an international forum for clinicians, researchers, educators, policymakers, industry partners, and other stakeholders focused on improving outcomes for patients with acute and chronic wounds.¹ WUWHS describes its mission as encouraging a global approach to education, research, and health care delivery to achieve optimal outcomes for patients with wounds.¹

A Proposed Theme Centered on Global Collaboration

The proposed WUWHS 2030 theme, “One World, One Vision: Transforming Wound Care Through Global Collaboration,” reflects the central purpose of the bid: to bring together clinicians, researchers, educators, industry leaders, and patient-focused stakeholders to advance wound care science, education, and clinical practice across disciplines and geographic regions.

For HMP Global, the bid represents an opportunity to extend a wound care ecosystem that includes the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) and Wounds, the official journal of SAWC, to a global WUWHS audience.^2,3 Together, these platforms support education, research dissemination, and multidisciplinary exchange focused on improving outcomes for patients with acute and chronic wounds.

Partner Organizations Supporting the WUWHS 2030 Bid

The Wound Healing Society is serving as the sponsoring society for the bid, with support from the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel.

The collaboration reflects the multidisciplinary nature of wound care, drawing together expertise in research, education, clinical practice, guideline development, advocacy, and professional collaboration.

That multidisciplinary foundation is also central to SAWC, which has long served as a meeting place for the wound care community. SAWC’s educational model brings together clinicians, researchers, scientists, and allied health professionals across specialties to address the prevention, assessment, management, and treatment of acute and chronic wounds.²

In that sense, the proposed WUWHS 2030 theme builds on work already underway through HMP Global’s wound care platforms: connecting experts across disciplines, supporting evidence-based education, and creating forums for scientific and clinical exchange.

The Role of Wounds in Global Wound Care Exchange

The bid also reflects the role of Wounds in supporting the scientific and clinical exchange that underpins progress in wound care.

As the official journal of SAWC, Wounds publishes research and commentary related to tissue repair and regeneration, wound healing biology and biochemistry, and clinical management of wound etiologies.³ Through the journal, findings presented in educational and scientific forums can be evaluated, disseminated, and preserved as part of the professional literature.

For John Lantis, MD, editor-in-chief of Wounds, that role is particularly important in the context of an international congress.

Why Las Vegas for WUWHS 2030?

The proposed host city, Las Vegas, offers substantial infrastructure for an international congress, including broad air access, hospitality capacity, and large-scale convention facilities.

The bid proposes Caesars Forum as the congress venue, with meeting space designed to support plenary sessions, scientific programming, workshops, abstract presentations, networking, and organizational meetings. Caesars Entertainment describes Caesars Forum as offering more than 550 000 ft² of meeting space, including large pillarless ballrooms and outdoor event space.⁴

Proposed Scientific Program for WUWHS 2030

The proposed scientific program for WUWHS 2030 includes plenary lectures, focused scientific sessions, regional perspectives, educational workshops, instructional courses, symposia, and oral abstract presentations.

The goal is to create a congress that reflects the breadth of contemporary wound care while emphasizing practical clinical applications that can improve care across settings and health systems.

Building on the History of the WUWHS Congress

The WUWHS Congress has historically provided a global forum for wound healing societies and professionals to exchange knowledge, share research, and strengthen international collaboration.^1,5

Previous congresses have been held in Australia, France, Canada, Japan, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates, with the 2026 congress scheduled for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.^1,5 A successful United States bid would add a new host country to that history while building on the congress’s international mission.

A Bid to Extend an Existing Wound Care Ecosystem

The US bid is not only a proposal to host a meeting. It is a proposal to build on existing wound care platforms—SAWC’s multidisciplinary education, Wounds’ role in research dissemination, and HMP Global’s health care meeting infrastructure—to create an international congress aligned with WUWHS’s global purpose.

As the bid process moves forward, HMP Global and its partner organizations will continue to share additional details with the wound care community. Regardless of the outcome, the bid underscores a shared commitment among wound care leaders: advancing evidence, education, and collaboration to improve outcomes for patients with wounds worldwide.
