National Registry of EMTs Announces W. Scott Gilmore as Board Chair

COLUMBUS, OHIO—The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (National Registry) and its Board of Directors announced that W. Scott Gilmore, MD, FACEP, FAEMS, has assumed the role of Board Chair. Gilmore began his term on Jan. 1, 2026, and will serve through Dec. 31, 2027.
Gilmore brings more than 30 years of experience in EMS as an EMT, paramedic, physician, and educator. He is an emergency physician who works at a busy tertiary suburban hospital. In addition, he serves as medical director for the St. Louis Fire Department, Affton Fire Protection District, Lemay Fire Protection District, and the Saint Louis Public Schools. Additionally, he is a member of the Abbott EMS Medical Advisory Council. He has authored chapters in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Textbooks.
“Dr. Gilmore is a respected leader in EMS medicine and education, and his experience uniquely positions him to help guide the National Registry during an important period of growth and modernization,” said Bill Seifarth, chief executive officer and executive director of the National Registry. “As we continue advancing our examinations, strengthening our technology infrastructure, and expanding our research efforts, Scott’s leadership will be critical in helping move EMS forward while keeping public protection at the center of everything we do."
A long-standing advocate for high-quality EMS education and clinical excellence, Gilmore is a fellow of the National Association of EMS Physicians as well as the American College of Emergency Physicians. In 2012, he received the John P. Pryor, MD, Street Medicine Society Award for his contributions to the field. In 2017, he received the Frank Mitchell Physician of the Year, Missouri EMS Association.
“It is an honor to serve as Board Chair of the National Registry during this time,” Gilmore said. “The National Registry plays a vital role in protecting the public and supporting the EMS workforce. I look forward to working closely with the board, staff, and our partners to continue modernizing our programs, advancing evidence-based decision-making, and ensuring that EMS Clinicians are prepared to meet the evolving demands of patient care.”
Gilmore added that collaboration will be central to his term. “By working together across disciplines and organizations, we can strengthen the EMS profession, support workforce sustainability, and help ensure that communities nationwide receive high-quality emergency medical care when they need it most."
