The one-hour and 23-minute documentary, entitled A Fireside Chat: Reflecting on the Formative Years of Hall Ambulance and the Legacy of Mr. Harvey L. Hall, features 41-year employee, Chairman of the Board and CAO Mrs. Lavonne C. Hall, plus 50-year employees, Paramedic Ed Smith (retired) and EMT Les Hutchison.

The documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at Hall Ambulance and Hall, who, in 2020, was recognized by the National EMS Museum and the California Ambulance Association as one of 17 native Californians for their impact on shaping EMS in the United States. Billed as a fireside chat amongst old friends, this casual conversation covers responding to calls in professional cars such as Hall’s 1970 Miller-Meteor Cadillac Ambulance, known as Tech 1; introducing paramedic service to Bakersfield in 1975 (making it one of the first cities in California to do so), the inclusion of women in EMS at Hall Ambulance, and the Hall Way of Doing Things—a standard of care that is reinforced to this day.

“Our intent for this legacy project is to acquaint those who never had the opportunity to know or work for Mr. Hall and provide them with a deeper understanding and appreciation for his methods, grounded in his ideals of care, compassion, and community,” said Corum, who wrote and produced the documentary and served as its host.

The streaming premiere of A Fireside Chat: Reflecting on the Formative Years of Hall Ambulance and the Legacy of Harvey L. Hall is Feb. 10 on Hall Ambulance’s Vimeo channel.
